JDS SOMMER GmbH was founded in 1984 in Frankfurt/Main by the owner and managing director Dipl.-Ing. Dan Sommer. At that time as today JDS remained committed to it’s concept and to the slogan “digital data instead of paper”.

From the outset JDS got involved in the optimization of business processes by accelerating and securing access to drawings and documents in enterprises. JDS digitized and reorganized complete paper archives containing everything from text documents to large size drawings. Soon the need evolved to provide everything from text documents to complex large size drawings not only as image files for the digital archive but as structured document files that could be processed and modified. These converted files should accurately represent the paper originals, however with the difference that they could be edited them with common CAD, text processing and database programs. This necessity spurred JDS to take on this topic and the company since worked intensively on a solution, which in it’s actual powerful variety is described on these Internet sides.

Meanwhile JDS is established in the market and has a customer base of over one thousand clients. JDS works for architects, civil engineers, industrial enterprises, utilities, municipalities, publishing houses, media houses, museums,… and digitizes and on average converts over 1,000 drawings per month from paper into accurate CAD files and in addition thousand of text documents into digital data.

Know-How: Scanning & computer-aided digitization

JDS combines high quality Scanning, computer-assisted digitization and profound engineering knowledge of and has developed and offers today the most efficient, fastest and best quality conversion from paper to CAD, as well as from paper to text data. Very competitive prices are reached by JDS due to the substantial share of computers in that process.
Approximately 75% of the drawing respectively document content is converted by a computerized procedure with high quality results. In this process dimensions and texts are interpreted to a large extent correctly.
Subsequently the quality assurance and the professional rework is done on screen by CAD specialists, engineers and media designers.

Today a core team of 16 experts for CAD, GIS, FM, media, and software guide a constantly growing network of free lance specialists for different topics. Today this group comprises more than fifty CAD designers and engineers of all backgrounds from GIS experts to energy consultants, as well as specialists for OCR and XML. They can cope with every technical task arising in connection with the wide technical scope of our client projects.
